Shadow Dance

By Anne Logston

She's a master thief as elusive as her name whose dagger is as sharp as her eyes and wits. Where there's a rich merchant to rob, good food and wine to be had, or a lusty fellow to kiss ... there's Shadow.

A deadly plague is sweeping through Allanmere, brought by a stranger whose race vanished long before the humans of Allanmere, or the elves of the forest, came to the land. Now Shadow must lead that stranger and her best friend Donya into the deadly swamp known as the Dim Reaches in search of a cure for the plague hidden among the traces of a race long gone.

A Race Against Death

Hundreds are dead in the streets of Allanmere, victims of the Crimson Plague. Only Shadow can lead a band of warriors into a horror-laden swamp to find a cure before the plague—and an impending invasion—destroy Allanmere.

But even an expert thief like Shadow may be unable to steal enough time to cheat death--and defeat an enemy that can't be stopped by sword or sorcery...

About the Author

Anne Logston
Anne Logston: An Icon of the Creative Universe—A Master of Science Fiction and Fantasy Quill—Paver of Past, Present, and Future. Each of best-selling author Anne Logston's books have their own story, but can all be described as all highly character-driven with a lot of action. Her characters, especially Shadow, often have a touch of whimsy and sly humor. While still maintaining a light touch, she talks about the consequences of racism, defining your own identity, and what happens when magic becomes mixed up in everyday lives.

Reviews

Shadow is bright, cheerful, and charming, hotly spiced with magic and intrigue ... a lass who'll steal your heart and your wallet with equal verve. —Simon R. Green, author of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

A rollicking good adventure!—Science Fiction Review

A highly entertaining fantasy ... with considerable humor. Logston has a definite knack with the elements that make medieval fantasies so popular. —LOCUS Magazine

Shadow is an extremely entertaining book; well-written and fast-moving with a definite plot that could be believed (on the premise of a world with magic and elves). Something to relax to and have fun with, it's terrific!—Amazon Reviews

A fun read! I have read this book more than a few times, each time being just as enjoyable as the time before. Anne Logston's vision of what an elf really is matches mine almost perfectly. She gives her characters depth, not from over-lengthy descriptions, but from behaviors and actions the characters take. Shadow is a wonderful book! I would recommend it to anyone wanting a fun, light fantasy story that the imagination can build upon endlessly.—Amazon Reviews

A witty, mysterious romp mixed with intrigue. Logston has outdone herself as she sets the scene for the two other Shadow novels. Shadow is witty, mischievous, daring and jovial, and gives this novel a certain spice that made me want to read it nonstop! I certainly recommend this novel to fantasy lovers who enjoy something set to a different tune once in awhile. A fantastic read!—Amazon Reviews

A wonderful story that leaves you wanting more. One of those books that you can not put down and yet hate to have it end. You will keep searching for more as it takes you into not only the story but your private feelings. This is a must read more the once book.—Amazon Reviews

This book is rich in detail and intrigue. Shadow is a wonderful mischievous character who is caught up in a mystery that is out of her league. She is an intriguing matriarch of the elves of the heartwood, and she is a most cunning trickster. This book is rich in detail and intrigue. A reader who loves a mischievous fantasy with a lot of dry humor and action will love Shadow and the other books in this series.—Amazon Reviews

Wonderful, surprising, fun-to-read enjoyment. Shadow, the best looking, surprisingly funny, and cunningly smart woman-elf-thief I wouldn't mind to have in every story I read.—Amazon Reviews

Tough to put this one down until well into the wee hours. An elven thief with an eye for a good looking hunk; that's Shadow. She's got a sense of humor, a ready blade, and a sense of decency. Odd for a thief? This book gives a female thief's point of view on the subject of larceny, adventure, and an occasional roll in the hay. Very well done.—Amazon Reviews

Shadow is possibly the coolest "elf-book" around. "Never trifle with an elf, a thief, or a woman... Shadow is all three!" How incredibly accurate. Here's a good read about a cocky, mischievous thief who steals what she wants, when she wants, be it a purse, or a kiss from a cute fellow... Nobody would mind a life like that! However, there's a slight problem within the Guild of Thieves, mainly involving the leader, who happens to be a corrupt, gluttonous, incompetent and generally "male" guy. Between running for her life and running for a good look at the random cute fellow she was following through the crowd, this book is darn amusing! The plot takes some great twists, especially with the appearance of her friends. Keep watch for the mysterious assassin Blade, and beware her price...—Amazon Reviews

Couldn't put it down. I read this book and couldn't put it down for a minute. I LOVED it! Ms. Logston has done it again by bringing to life a very lovable elf and entangling her in another problem. The creative way she then gets her out kept me on the edge of my seat from page one.—Amazon Reviews

You can't help but love Shadow. This book, along with the rest of the series, is full of personality. They aren't very long, but within those few pages you live with the characters. I would recommend anything by Logston.—Amazon Reviews

Shadow Dance is possibly one of Logston's best books ever. Shadow Dance, by Anne Logston, is a marvelous fantasy that concludes the trilogy. Logston brings her characters alive once again with the same stylish, mischievous air that makes her other novels so popular. Shadow, Donya and the other characters are added to a marvelously complex plot that can only be rated with five stars.—Amazon Reviews

Out For Blood

"There's one of them now!" a woman's harsh voice screamed.

"Huh?" Shadow looked around quickly, then froze as two things became clear: first, that a large crowd of angry-looking humans was rapidly approaching; and second, that they meant her.

Large hands gripped at her tunic.

     "Kill her!" several voices roared.

     "No, bleed her!" others argued.

"Whoa, wait a bit!" Shadow shouted. "At least take the time to rob me first." Wriggling one hand free, she ripped loose her belt pouch and flung it as hard as she could. The broken ties opened, spilling coins and gems across the ground.

Some of the shouts changed tone and a few of the hands released her; the others loosened in surprise.

Shadow pulled out two daggers and used them, slashing desperately at feet, shins, calves and thighs indiscriminately. A boot caught her squarely in the side of her head while another slammed into her belly.

But what frightened her more was the knife that came flashing down, missing her face by only a fingerbreadth ...
